Okay, I think I got a theory why the launcher is so horribly unreliable sometimes: So if the windows and linux version don't write the same files to the same folder structure in the respective app data equivalents it will create a mess, and it seems like the launcher possibly doesn't do that right? Not sure if this causes any trouble, the crash sure seems to happen anyway (I cleaned all files according to the support guys and that didn't fix it) but it still seems like something that should be fixed to avoid unexpected side effects in the future. Apparently, the windows and linux version write to slightly different places unnecessarily so - and let me explain what I mean: in Steam, it is possible to trivially switch over between Proton/wine and Linux while retaining the app data directories, and some places like the documents folder on windows will end up in an equivalent'ish path on linux retaining(!) their files. Safe mode works perfectly fine and launches the game directly, so the game itself seems to have zero trouble - but that also disables the Mods which is quite unfortunate.Īlso, when I showed Paradox Support the places where the launcher stores its app data and logs and such they were quite surprised. I see the loading splash of it, then it just goes away and that's it. For what it's worth, I'm on Fedora 31 and the launcher doesn't appear to work as bundled with Prison Architect.
